Canadian Citizenship Test
How do you book the Canadian citizenship test?
Quick answer
You do not book the Canadian citizenship test yourself. After you apply for citizenship, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) reviews your application and sends you an invitation to take the test -- the test is now usually a self-administered online test, and your invitation gives you a window in which to complete it.
IRCC invites you
Unlike many exams, you cannot schedule the Canadian citizenship test on your own. After you submit your citizenship application and IRCC determines you meet the residency and other requirements, they will send you an invitation to take the test. This can take many months after applying.
What the invitation includes
The test is now usually a self-administered online test. Your invitation arrives by email and gives you a window of time -- about 30 days -- in which to take the online test, along with instructions for verifying your identity. Follow the instructions exactly and complete the test before your window closes.
Use the wait to prepare
The time between applying and receiving your test invitation is your preparation window. Use it to study all five chapters of the Discover Canada guide and practise with realistic mocks so you are ready the moment your invitation arrives. Always confirm the latest process on canada.ca.
